day 23: your shoes

These are most of the shoes I wear regularly (plus one lonely pair of Noji’s adidas sneakers), gumming up our genkan. I wear the Ash sneakers and flats the most. I’m sure all these damned ballet flats are what are messing up my feet but I keep buying new ones like it’s my job.

The best shoe purchase I made were the rubber boots, though. Best 4000 yen I’ve ever spent.

PS I am going to amend day 21 with the following completely to scale Photoshop masterpiece I did when Noji and I got married to show our future life together. Introducing: the dream.

I think I’ve already uploaded most of my favorite pictures so here’s a blast from the past– April 2008, Disney Sea with Jackie, squinting into the sun. I don’t think I’ve really changed at all in the last 10 years and all my pictures kind of look the same, just with longer/shorter hair.

How is it already 11pm! I should be in bed. /an old person

day 20: handwriting

Hello, tiny post-it with incoherent scrawls all over you. I was clearly doing a lot of work that day. I have weird handwriting that is not very good but I’ve come to terms with it. I write a lot more now for my job than I have maybe since middle school.

Today I may or may not have had a Double Down (AKA “CHICKEN DOUBLE FILLET”) at the local KFC. It was pretty good! Maybe not an experience I’ll repeat anytime soon, but a relatively delicious exercise in shortening my lifespan.

day 19: something you hate to do

I hate washing my hair. I’m like a cat, I can’t handle it. I wasn’t sure how to illustrate this (other options: my hair with stink lines above it?), so this is me rocking my microfiber turban which helps mercifully cut down my hairdrying time. I remember when I was a teacher, some of the 9th grade girls asked me in total amazement/disgust if it was really true that Americans don’t wash their hair every day. This would explain why I can’t find dry shampoo in this country! (Currency using Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo with no complaints.)

I made a Pinterest! What on earth is it? Who knows. I have so many pieces of the internet to maintain now.

This meme is clearly testing my creativity, which I have long abandoned in favor of memorizing more Japanese and reading more blogs. Time?? So whatever: my family has a tradition where we all say I love you at 2:30 (a time important to my parents) and my parents said it would be great if we continued that at 11:24 (our anniversary date) but we haven’t gotten into the habit quite yet. Happy 11:24pm!

(Today I went to karaoke with my coworkers ahhhh I love karaoke, seriously. Have I mentioned this lately? Maybe that is why my voice is all messed up. I should probably rest it, but <3 u karaoke. My jam tonight was 2ne1′s I AM THE BEST.)

I bet everyone is doing this meme in pretty instagrammed pictures but whatever, behold my crap lighting. I bought these shoes like 3 weeks ago on a very expensive whim (??? I don’t even wear heels normally) but I’ve only wore them once– to the combini when I was sick.

Happy Valentines Day! This is a postcard from when we went to Disneyland last month. It was freezing and no one was there except every baby in the country. Who says there’s a low birth rate?

At Disney, they have a special postmark for post sent from the park, so whenever we go we send ourselves a card to commemorate the day. I think we have ~10 now.

We celebrated Valentines Day on Sunday with shabushabu and macarons from Pierre Hermé. So good! So expensive. I think we polished these babies off in about 180 seconds. From L-R: vanilla, coffee, citron, rose, pistachio, and chocolate.
